Park County Human Services
Veterans' Service Division
We have two divisions of the Human Services agency actively working in the South Park area. Jeremiah Pedrie is the Veterans' Service Officer. Even though his base is in Bailey, he works out of Guffey the last Wednesday of each month and is there from 11 AM to 1 PM then at the Lake George Community Center from 2 PM - 4 PM. He is also in the Bailey office every Monday from 8 AM to 6 PM. The good news he is at the Hartsel Community Center on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 2 PM - 4 PM. The Park County Board of Commisioners supports this impetus for our veterans 100%.
He has an "Outreach" program where he investigates veterans' organizations, vets them and compares the organization to established standards. He does all the groundwork before recommending or sending a veteran to another veterans' organizations for and additional assistance. of.
He also works with teh "Heros Program". An example is Ms. Cinty Winner who runs a horse therapy program out of Bailey. Because some veteranws have trust issues, this program lets the vet focus energy with the horse and build some confidence. The horse and vet learn to trust each other. This is an established program and also has been used with autistic children.
Jeremiah's primary job is to assist a veteran get benefits they are entitled to, or further benefits they may not be aware of. His secondary job is to obtain anything else the veteran may need. He can assist a veteran with employment opportunities through the equally dedicated branch of the Department of Human Serivces-Emplyment First/Workforce Development Coach, Terry Carlile.
Jeremiah is a veteran himself, having served three tours in Iraq as an M.P. with the Air Force and Army. He will be at Burro Days in Fairplay, the last full weekend in July, and at Hartsel Days, the first weekend in August. Stop by, he would love to speak with you.
